Interview with Time 100 Honoree Dr. Freeman Hrabowski on His Legacy

When I think of true leadership and the type of person I want to be when I grow up, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski is my standard. Renowned for his role in transforming the University of Maryland Baltimore Country from a commuter college into a diverse hub for STEM learning, my conversation with him dives into his story growing up in the Civil Rights era and his advice for educators  in an increasingly polarizing world.  This is one of those conversations and moments that will forever be imprinted in my memory. He also called me the "Oprah of Education" at the end of the interview which may be the greatest compliment I have ever received.😂

On this W/A Queen's Court episode, I sat down with DMC about his work to advocate for mental health support for students, his legacy, and who he believes is the “future of hip-hop.” Fun fact, this was my first ever "high-profile" in-person celebrity interview  and DMC's energy and warmth made this a fun and enjoyable moment that I'll always remember.

This interview with Dr. Kashyap Patel was a 101 lesson on  “social determinants of health”. Research shows that 34% of US cancer deaths would be preventable if socioeconomic disparities could be eliminated. Dr. Patel founded the No One Left Alone (NOLA) initiative, to improve access to care for patients with cancer regardless of ability to pay. Dr. Patel’s warmth during our conversation and reminder that we are all “children of God” left me awed and inspired.

It’s a story about the power of literacy and the importance of second chances.
